Round two for the Banksy market

In today’s blog post we recap an interesting summer and look towards the end of the year to see what may be in store for those looking either to buy Banksy prints or sell their Banksy print.

As many of our readers may well know, 2020 saw a meteoric rise in the value of Banksy signed and unsigned prints. It was, pleasingly, not only the print market that gained momentum. Banksy original artworks too saw an increase in value. A frenzy seemed to descend on the market as collectors across the globe leapt at the chance to acquire work. World records were shattered in consecutive auctions and the thriving secondary market, of which Andipa have led for many years, swelled up like the identifiable red of Girl with Balloon

Fast forward to 2021 and we have seen a of the market - much needed in our opinion - as Banksy collectors both new and old take a breath.

The summer, generally quiet in the artworld, has allowed the market to develop a much needed sense of space. Excitingly, as we write this off the back of the latest Sotheby’s auction the market, is showing positive signs of strength and robustness yet again. Round two perhaps?? This September boasts two major auction houses presenting Banksy Only sales, and Andipa Editions is delighted to offer nearly all of the works available in both auctions, often at much  lower prices to our buyers.

As we move into the end of the year Banksy’s popularity and the demand for his works is still as strong as ever. A sense of optimism can be found as collectors continue to seek his works. Looking towards the next few months we believe that the market will continue to rise. What remains unknown is just how much or how fast but what doesn’t change is the quality and impact of the artworks by an artist who, quite simply, is peerless.

For over 15 years we have been on an immeasurable journey in dealing with the artworks of Banksy, one that will continue, and we hope that you can join us in the pleasure and excitement that his works and the buzz that surround them can bring.
