The event marked a tragic chapter where Chinese authorities brutally suppressed demonstrators during the '89 Democracy Movement. In Banksy's rendition, he employs his distinctive stencil style to recreate the scene. However, instead of the tank man confronting the military vehicle, the protestor in Banksy's version holds a sign reading "Golf Sale," reminiscent of the placards commonly seen in London and other urban centres during sales events. Typical of Banksy's artistry, his sharp wit and humour are immediately evident. Through this piece, he continues to convey his anti-authoritarian stance and critique of both the state and capitalism. Golf Sale exemplifies Banksy's ability to deliver poignant social commentary with a punch.14de 20
