    David Hockney’s Yosemite Suite No.10 is a striking image from his pioneering Yosemite Suite series, in which he used the Apple Ipad for the first time to create ‘drawings’ turned digital prints of his beloved Californian spot, Yosemite National Park.
     
    Yosemite Suite No.10 is one the most intricate of the print series which shows Hockney’s adaptability as an artist: the image is one of the most abstracted of the Yosemite Suite series, the artist plays with multiple colour shades, tones and brush thicknesses (possible due to the Ipad) to create the smudging, abstracted effect mirroring the en plein air work of famous Impressionist painters, like Monet.
     
    In Yosemite Suite No.10 the viewer cannot easily locate place or narrative: the scene depicts a small pine tree front and centre and a smaller one in the distance, the trees executed in a verdant green are reflected back to the viewer through looming shadows created in bold blue shades. Unlike many of the other prints in the series, the trees here are depicted in a naturalist style. We can also see shading in the background, that appears to be of El Capitan, the famed Yosemite National Park granite rock face and looming bright blue skies.
