Keith Haring Untitled (Heart) (Littman p.92)
Meaning & History"Untitled (Heart) is a joyous, colourful expression of togetherness and friendship expressed in one of the most ubiquitous and universally recognised symbols."
Untitled is a silkscreen on canvas print created by the artist in 1988. Coming from a small edition of 20, the work is rare.
At the centre of the picture, two figures with separate arms, legs and bodies cojoin with one head that bears Haring’s radiant heart motif. It is a joyous, colourful expression of togetherness and friendship expressed in one of the most ubiquitous and universally recognised symbols.
In Haring’s work, as exemplified here, human figures often transcend their physical boundaries and morph, stretch and interlock. As well as making for a dynamic and graphic style in Haring’s line, this also shows the power of oneness. Haring’s philosophy of art is a humanist one: drawing ‘brings together man and the world. It lives through magic.’
