Roy Lichtenstein Figures (Corlett 157)
"In the foreground of the composition is a faux-wood cubic sculpture, an icon used in his American Indian series"
From Roy Lichtenstein’s Surrealist series created in 1978, Figures is from an edition of 38 and was made from lithograph on Arches 88 paper, which is signed, dated and numbered in pencil.
In the foreground of the composition is a faux-wood cubic sculpture, an icon used in his American Indian series. The mystifying, maze-like contains circular gaps, perhaps where a human arm threads through. The ghostly figure behind gives a sinister tone to the sculpture, while the presence of a yellow snake curled around the bottom of the structure and the band of white cloud in the background adds to the surrealist, fragmented tone of the piece.
