Keith Haring Untitled, 1983 (Littman p.29) For Sale

Untitled is a woodcut created by Haring in 1983. Following in the form of the artist’s tableau style works of the same period, this work makes the influence of his beginnings as a street artist clear, and it is a vibrant expression of intimacy and movement. 

Haring’s characteristic matchstick figures traverse the picture, their bendy arms reaching for each other. Though they lack figurative hands, the point of connection is irrefutable, accented by a green spark. Haring’s line in the composition, bold and fluid as always, seems to form an entirely interconnected, holistic image that mirrors the intimacy of his two figures: the figures are not framed by, but are directly attached to the very border of the image (each one has one hand out of frame) and of course to each other. Unity, and oneness were paramount concerns for Haring, who was interested in social causes and spirituality. Having a humanist approach to art, Haring said ‘Art is nothing if you don’t reach every segment of the people’.
