“The greatest crimes in the world are not committed by people breaking the rules but by people following the rules. ..."

  • Rules are there to be broken and none more than the elusive artist Banksy has followed this tennant. Exciting, provocative, sensitive and cutting - the artist's aserbic wit and unmatched style disrupted Walton Street with Andipa's pioneering 2006 exhibition. As crowds lined the streets, desperate to see the works of their masked hero, Andipa's doors flung open to the hungry crowds of collectors, anarchists and even the well-heeled.

The landmark exhibition showcased Banksy at his brilliant best and, even today, few museums (and even fewer galleries) can claim to have had just so many iconic works by Banksy in one space. So here it is, just for you. "Banksy from the collection of Andipa" in all its tumultuous glory.

    • From the Collection of Andipa is one of those once in a lifetime show where all things seem to work out. Of course, at the time was difficult to see it panning out how we wanted it to but, when all is said and done, it went to plan. There comes a certain responsibility in the life of any private gallery when creating a private show and the weight of responsibility weighed firmly upon our team with the exhibition. With such an exciting artist we felt it our duty to replicate an experience for visitors - both those familiar with the artist and those new to the world of Banksy.

    • Here, online for the first time, it gives us great pleasure to continue to bring this important slice of our own history to visitors. The works, even at the time, were fastly becoming true icons and, as we all know, have since skyrocketed both in terms of renown and in terms of value. Our relationship to the works of Banksy and to the artist himself has always been one of total respect. After all, it was our love of art that first brought him to our attention - his barbed social commentary elegantly and tastefully presented through popular motifs, jokes and his undeniable style. As the artist has evolved we have continued to be in awe at his prolific output, his weaponised style and his role in making us all look into who we are as a people and society.

Reviewing the exhibition, when creating an online version, has truly been a labour of love for all at Andipa and, even after all these years, the vibrancy and power of the works is as evident as it was when we first laid eyes on them. Since the exhibition, Andipa have continued to be at the forefront of the Banksy market and, without doubt, this exhibition firmly placed us there. However, like with all things Banksy it is vital that the artist be recognised and even more so in the turbulent times we are facing. Every generation needs a superhero, an unknown crusader whos stands up against injustice and, in Banksy, our generation has this. Unknown to all but a few? Yes. Loved by millions? Very much so.
