    Pears is a screenprint created by Andy Warhol in 1979 as part of his Space Fruit: Still Lifes series. This print features a Pop Art reimagining of a group of pears, rendered in a striking green hue and set against a vivid red background. 

    If colour is seen as the ultimate vehicle for emotion in art, with each hue triggering a unique response, Warhol handles this with mastery. His heavily saturated black-and-white images of Marilyn Monroe convey a sense of morbidity and darkness, while the vibrant rainbow colours in Space Fruit evoke a sense of playful, almost childlike joy.

    In the late 1970s, Warhol shifted from his famous portraits of celebrities and public figures to focus more on silkscreened still lifes. Though often underappreciated, these works are crucial to understanding Warhol’s trademark style, which would leave a lasting impact on fashion, art, and pop culture.
