Damien Hirst

A wealth of Hirst’s prolific and varied output that spanned the career of the World’s richest artist  was on display at the auction including spots, butterflies and skulls. In particular, irst’s 12 woodcut series, of which Andipa Editions have a selection currently available, performed admirably showing that the works still have relevance today. The Virtues  series of prints sold well., both as a complete set and individuals, as Hirst’s spirited performances at auctions continues to impress.

David Hockney

Hockney, along with Hirst, had a number of works featured that spanned his broad array of styles and periods. Notably, we saw prints from his Pool series alongside more recent offerings such as the iPad drawings that were propped up by classics including the Celia works and some fine etchings. The stand out performance for Hockney’s was undoubtedly that of Lithograph of Water Made of Lines, a Green Wash, and a Light Blue Wash (T.G. 248, M.C.A.T. 205) which sold for a record £214,200 GBP.

Banksy

Following a stabilisation in the Banksy market, performance continued to show signs of increased positivity with excellent performances from the seminal Laugh Now and Girl with Balloon respectively. Given Banksy’s much lauded and applauded recent street works in Ukraine, the market shows no signs of abating as the anonymous artist continues to provoke, delight and inspire critics and collectors across the world.

Andy Warhol

Dominated by figures from the Reigning Queens portfolio, a wonderful selection of Warhol prints appeared including a fine Marilyn, Shoes and Mao. The works, which reflect Warhol’s continuing popularity and relevance in the world of contemporary art all passed their estimate and, in particular, the Mao (F, & S. 99) sold for almost three times its estimate at a reported £95,760 GBP. Flowers (F, & S. 66) also tripled its estimate and closed at £163,800 GBP. A remarkable performance by an artist whose works still spark such joy and interest amongst collectors.
