Peaches (F & S. II 202)
"Warhol’s approach in this work is noticeably bolder and more expansive than his previous depictions of fruit, such as Banana."
Peaches is a screenprint created by Andy Warhol in 1979 as part of his Space Fruit: Still Lifes series. This print features a Pop Art reimagining of a group of peaches, rendered in a striking orange hue and set against a vivid yellow background. Among the works in the portfolio, Peaches stands out for its intricate detail, with Warhol adding a layer of texture to the surface of the fruit, enhancing its visual depth.
Much like his iconic soup cans and Brillo pads, Warhol understood the power of everyday objects.Warhol’s approach in this work is noticeably bolder and more expansive than his previous depictions of fruit, such as Banana. Here, Warhol experiments with the dimensionality of the fruits, presenting them in both two and three dimensions, highlighting their shadows and varying positions. In doing so, he deconstructs the fruit in a way that moves beyond mere representation.
